The History of BioMass For Africa

Biomass for Africa was launched in 2012 with the purpose to secure, process and market biomass as an alternative for fossil fuels and as a source of energy. In addition to this, Biomass for Africa also provide and manage the logistics in the supply chain of biomass.

Biomass for Africa realised the existing potential of plantations in terms of biomass. Damaged timber can be chipped and the biomass can be used locally in cogeneration plants or be exported to Europe to be used as fuel in dedicated biomass plants or co-firing coal power generators. Biomass for Africa created new business opportunities for the local communities in KZN by involving them in the harvesting and transport of material in damaged plantations.
